Categorical Data: Converting from numeric data / integer codes
Sometimes, data that is in a numeric format in raw format may actually describe categorical features. Three common examples are
- Numbers that are used as unique identifiers of products in a sales database,
- Numbers that are used as unique codes in survey data, or
- Numbers that are numeric, but describe few main categories (such as screen sizes of products, with 15 and 17 inch options).
To convert the data type from numeric to categorical, click "derive" icon, and choose "Convert to categorical".
